I think, currently, Team 1 are not sufficiently blocked from the next several rounds of activation

But it doesn't look like they will be entirely blocked out of South London to be honest. I think they will sneak in one or two more boroughs and that would be enough to keep them ahead until the last couple of hours

I very much think Team 2 should have zoomed across the map towards Greenwich and Bexley before lunch, rather than claiming Islington.

Team 2 aren't really locking anything, but also aren't claiming faster than the other two teams who are

this catch up was facilitated by a few hours recently where Team 3 had pre-locked all the boroughs

What would you say worked better for Team 1 strategically?

they just hit more of the boroughs they visited during their wheel activation times
